Join us for a conversation on Afrofuturism and how imaginative and creative work focused on Black liberation can empower Black children. Together, we will discuss how art, storytelling, and thinking about Black liberation can create the vision and resilience needed to build toward transformation.

Ytasha L. Womack, Award-winning author, director, independent scholar, and dance therapist
Ytasha L. Womack is an award-winning author, director, independent scholar, and dance therapist. She is author of The Afrofuturist Evolution: Creative Paths to Self Discovery, Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi & Fantasy Culture, and Black Panther: A Cultural Exploration, among others. Her graphic novel Black Moon Ritual and her non fiction book Marvel Age of Comics: Miles Morales will be released in 2026. The graphic novel Blak Kube will be released in 2027. She cowrote and produced the award-winning sky show Niyah & The Multiverse for the Adler Planetarium. Other films include A Love Letter to the Ancestors From Chicago (director) and Couples Night (screenwriter).
She is also narrative designer for the upcoming. immersive experience, HeadMaze. Ytasha was a resident at Black Rock Senegal, co-curated Carnegie Hall’s Afrofuturism Festival, and was featured in the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures exhibit. Ytasha is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University. She is based in Chicago, loves house music and drinking tea.
