This webinar series is comprised of four 60-minute sessions, November 1 to December 13, 2022, at noon, every other Tuesday.

Specially tailored for library supervisors and managers (but open to all levels of library workers), this four part webinar series introduces basic concepts and terminology of construction, building management, and building maintenance as they relate to the library environment. Attendees will gain a better understanding of their physical surroundings, improve equity within the library space, identify potential building issues, communicate more effectively with building maintenance personnel, respond appropriately to critical building issues and emergencies, and use lessons learned for better decision-making when planning building improvements and budgeting.

By the end of this series, attendees will:

  • Understand terminology for use with building professionals (i.e. building trade workers, architects, designers, planners, inspectors, vendors, etc.)
  • Learn basic building concepts and principles as they pertain to library operations
  • Navigate effectively through complex building management problems and processes
  • Develop inter-departmental and external relationships to maximize outcomes
  • Apply learned material in “real world” library environments
  • Stay pertinent, attentive, and “at the table” when advocating for libraries
