In this presentation, we will walk you through our online toolkit which can be used by librarians to transform libraries as key players in their community’s local economic development by using practical tips and resources to assist their communities. This toolkit includes collection suggestions, lists of electronic resources, staff training resources, potential government partnerships, suggestions for adjusting the physical library space, and current exemplar library initiatives.

Presenters:

  • Camille: Camille Hyatt is the Youth Service Librarian at the Ocean Beach Branch of the San Diego Public Library System. She has been working in the library field for over 10 years and earned her MLIS from SJSU in 2021.

  • Fernanda: Fernanda Nuñez Gutierrez is a Children’s Librarian at the Alameda Free Library. She began working in public libraries in 2017 and has since enjoyed exploring all the different areas of library service. Most recently she creates diverse and STEAM oriented programming for children and their families. Fernanda earned her MLIS degree from SJSU in 2023.
