Learn change management skills to help support your library's ever-evolving needs.
Libraries and communities are constantly changing and evolving, and library leaders need skills to help manage these changes. This two-week online course will teach you the foundations of change management so that you're prepared to implement systems that support your teams and communities for upcoming, organizational changes. You will learn processes for clear and strategic communication and team collaboration and buy-in, as well as how to appropriately scope and plan for change and how to analyze risks and track progress. Leave this course with the practical knowledge and skills to lead your library through changes with confidence.
Learning Outcomes
After you attend this course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand the change management cycle.
- Design systems to support and prepare staff for upcoming changes.
- Communicate about changes clearly with staff and external stakeholders.
- Garner collaboration and buy-in from team members.
- Scope and plan for change.
- Analyze risks involved with change.
- Track key performance indicators over time.
Expected time commitment
If you watch the recordings of all sessions and participate in the asynchronous workshop, you'll spend approximately 2-4 hours per week on this course. You'll earn 10 hours of PD credit and a Library Journal certificate of completion.

Dr. Barbakoff is a passionate public library leader, consultant, speaker, and author. She helps libraries and other social good organizations facilitate engaged learning that becomes the foundation for shared creativity and resilience. Barbakoff applies human-centered design and community-led practices to help libraries develop locally relevant, sustainable innovations that lead to more equitable, diverse, and inclusive services. She specializes in topics such as strategic planning, change management, and community engagement.
