Leadership for ALL

Are you curious about the exciting world of co-design and how it can transform the way libraries engage with their communities? Join us for a captivating digital drop-in session where we delve into the co-design principles employed by KidsTeam Libraries. KidsTeam Libraries has been at the forefront of inclusive and innovative co-design practices. Working in both Seattle Public Library branches and rural county libraries, KidsTeam Libraries explores technology usage in library space and allows kids from different communities the opportunity to be design partners. This 60-minute Digital Drop-In will be a catalyst conversation with Michele Newman, who will discuss the work of KidsTeam Libraries, including sharing what it takes to plan, design, and implement co-designed services.

Presenter: Michele Newman is a doctoral student in the Information School at the University of Washington. She is also a member of the UW Gamer Group and the Digital Youth Lab. In the broadest sense, her research interests include knowledge organization and preservation of interactive/multimedia, music information retrieval, and computational creativity, particularly as it relates to how we better involve communities in the creation of digital tools. Using qualitative methods and participatory design, her current work looks at the potential of online, fan-generated content for the long-term preservation of video games and the way artificial intelligence is impacting the creativity of creators and children. She received her MLIS from University of Denver and her MM in Music Theory from Indiana University - Bloomington.
