Program Description

Event Details

Libraries serve communities with a wide range of sensory needs. This one-hour, online lightning learning introduces the foundations of sensory-friendly library design. You will explore small, meaningful changes that can make a big difference for patrons of all ages, including neurodivergent individuals and those with sensory sensitivities.

You will leave this one-hour lightning session with practical ideas for creating more sensory-friendly library environments and a stronger understanding of how accessibility supports everyone.

Presenter:

  • Jennifer Jamsky, Accessibility Services Coordinator, Durham County Library
Jennifer has had the privilege of working in and with libraries for over twenty years. She started her career as a student assistant at UNC-Asheville’s Ramsey Library and then moved into public library settings, including a decade with an international vendor. Jennifer also has ten years’ experience serving the disability community, first as a direct support professional and arts counselor, and now in her role with Durham County Library in North Carolina. She has been the Accessibility Services Coordinator for Durham County Library for just over four years. Her passion and focus are disability inclusion, staff development, and outreach. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys comedy, cats, and crochet. (Fun fact: she currently owns too much yarn and not enough cats.)
