Sarah Sahn and Karliegh Riesen share the development, assessment, and continued growth of a holistic mentorship and community-building program for instruction librarians.

Mentorship and community-building programs for instruction librarians are critical for facilitating the development and growth of teaching practices.

In this webinar, Sarah Sahn and Karleigh Riesen detail the development, assessment, and continued growth of a holistic mentorship and community-building program of support for instruction librarians at a large R1 research library. This program addresses the needs of new-to-the-field and newly hired instruction librarians as well as experienced librarians through a suite of options embedded in the library instruction program. This session will explore the rewards and challenges of building a community of practice that meets the needs of a group of instruction librarians across a range of disciplines and experience levels.

In this session, they will:
Introduce concepts and underlying principles of mentorship and community building from the library and education literature for instruction librarians.

Provide an overview of a program of support in the context of a large R1 research library.

Discuss program successes, lessons learned, and ideas for growth.

Reflect on how we as mentors can use our experiences to create community among instruction librarians and foster their growth as educators.
