Library professionals are equipped with numerous skills to help their staff and communities. But who expected to add “trainer” to your list of skills?
This workshop will introduce an easy, 4-step framework that will enable you to provide effective one-on-one workplace training. During this session, you will use this framework to begin creating your own training on a topic of your choice. Once you have learned this framework, you will be able to use it to teach skills and procedures for the rest of your professional career. Engaging, practical, and fun, this workshop will increase your confidence and effectiveness as a trainer, particularly if you are a manager or supervisor.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the four steps of effective “one-to-one” workplace training.
-
Create a job breakdown sheet (JBS) to use in teaching a library task.
-
Create a draft training on your chosen topic.
This workshop has a high level of engagement and interaction. Participants will need a camera to fully participate and will be expected to keep their camera on throughout.
Prior to the workshop, each participant should:
-
Download and print a paper copy of the Participant Manual, which will be emailed with the training confirmation. This Participant Manual is an integral part of the workshop.
-
Come with a training topic in mind. You will use this topic throughout the workshop (examples: Issuing a new library card; collection inventory; timesheet submission).
