April 3 - May 14, 2023 | Six-week course
In this course you will learn about the diversity of data and the best practices that should be followed throughout the research data lifecycle to ensure that data are collected, organized, described, licensed, cited, preserved, shared, stored and reused ethically. We will discuss data governance, data privacy, data quality and data security among other topics. By the end of the course, you will be able to identify the components of a good data management plan, which will help you establish policies and appropriate infrastructures to support your institution in managing, sharing and reusing research data efficiently. There are no pre-requisites required prior to registering for this course. Please note the December 2021/January 2022 session is eight weeks in length, but includes six weeks of content and time for a winter session break.

Presenter: Dalal Rahme has over 11 years of experience in academic libraries. She received her M.S in Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2014 with a specialization in the Data Curation and Socio-Technical Data Analytics. She currently holds the position of data services librarian at the American University of Beirut (AUB), where she assists in the curation of data for different projects, delivers training and workshops related to data literacy, data management, data curation and data visualization, and helps in administering the institutional repository at AUB. She is also an instructor at the Graduate School of Information Science at the Lebanese Public University where she teaches digital preservation and data curation since 2015. She served on several committees at IFLA (FAIFE 2018-2019), ALA (Students Chapter 2013-2014) and the Lebanese Library Association (board member 2017-2019).
