October 2 - November 12, 2023 | Six-week course

This course explores the importance and relevance of kindness and well-being in the workplace for people in all roles. It supports people to look after their own well-being, improve the well-being of others and create a kind workplace. We will look at a range of topics, from theories of job demands and personal resources to the future of work.

By understanding the benefits of kindness and well-being at individual, group, and organisational levels, we can create a healthier and more productive workplace for everyone.

The themes covered will be:

  • What is kindness and how does it help well-being?
  • Introduction to kindness and well-being
  • Kindness and working relationships – including communication, and strength-based teams
  • Wellbeing at work
  • Personal resources regarding their meaning in life, emotional intelligence and empathy, and compassion at work
  • Kindness at work around the professional culture and climate
  • The future of work

Presenter: Helen Rimmer is Head of Library and Archives Service at the University of Westminster having previously held roles at different levels at Royal Holloway, City University, INTO UEA and University of Brighton. She is passionate about building a kinder world, improving wellbeing, compassionate leadership, and Flexible Working. Helen has a PGCert in the Psychology of Kindness and Wellbeing at Work from the University of Sussex, and is sharing her knowledge through her The Kind Brave Leader project. She has many years experience in teaching and instruction, including online primarily in roles as a subject librarian.
