Program Description

Event Details

This workshop explains modern Artificial Intelligence (AI), including how AI programs are designed, the types of AI-based tools and applications available, and what to expect in the near future. You'll use a Training Platform called PLAID (Public Library and AI Demonstrator) specifically designed for this class so that you can try immediately as you learn.

After viewing a foundational recording in CALL Academy participants will network with other library staff in a 90-minute workshop, and experiment in an environment created specifically for this training.

Following the workshop, participants will be granted unlimited use of the PLAID Training platform for two weeks. Throughout the two weeks, access to the instructor will be provided through the CALL Academy "Discussion" module.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the basic concepts underlying modern AI systems, including what these systems can and can't do (so far).
  • Understand how copyright and privacy concerns relate to modern AI tools.
  • Understand the basic architecture of AI-based applications such as AI-powered search and summarization tools.
  • Develop experience using ChatGPT to support library operations, programs, and services.
  • Learn intermediate prompt engineering techniques
  • Develop experience creating engaging and compelling images for library marketing materials using DALL-E2 and Stable Diffusion.
