Monday, March 6 – Sunday, April 2, 2023 | Four-week online course

When it comes to teen outreach services, underserved communities provide a variety of challenges. You can’t serve them if you can’t identify them, and this eCourse begins by providing a clear foundation for defining and identifying underserved teens in your community.

Jessica Snow, author of Outreach Services for Teens: A Starter Guide (ALA Editions, 2020), will guide you through teen outreach in the real world. You’ll learn how to identify and create partnerships with organizations that aid underserved teens, how to create a core collection of materials you may use in your outreach services, and how to identify goals and outcomes for your outreach services.

Registration for this course includes a physical and digital copy of Outreach Services for Teens: A Starter Guide, which will be used as the main text for the course.

This eCourse is also included in the Library Outreach for Underserved Children and Teens eCourse Bundle.

Through your participation in this course, you will:

  • Gain a larger understanding of the definition of outreach services for teens.
  • Learn principles for the creation of your own outreach services.
  • Identify goals and outcomes for your own outreach services.
  • Be able to construct a comprehensive outreach services plan.

Course Outline:

  • Week One: A short history of outreach services. How do we define outreach services? How to identify and create partnerships with organizations that serve underserved teens.
  • Week Two: How to identify and create partnerships with organizations that serve underserved teens.
  • Week Three: Outreach in the real world.
  • Week Four: Creating a core collection for your outreach services. Putting it all together. Create an outreach services plan that you will receive feedback on from the instructor.
