Three-part webinar series | Tuesday, October 22; Wednesday, October 23; and Thursday, October 24, 2024 | 11:30 - 1:00 pm

Management positions in libraries rarely come with an instruction manual—for many library administrators, learning on the job is the only way to learn. Even for those with training and experience, it can be difficult to find any support for the emotional aspects of the job.

In this webinar series, management expert Cinthya Ippoliti will guide you through a new approach to leadership that begins with your core values. Participants will engage in reflective activities to explore tools they can proactively apply to navigate a complex and ever-changing environment while emphasizing wellness and mental health. 

Participants will learn how to push through organizational challenges and community struggles to build a positive work culture in any situation. In three 90-minute live, active-learning sessions, Cinthya will apply concepts from Acceptance Commitment Theory, Inclusive/Equity-centered Leadership, and Stoicism to teach the tools needed to explore values, manage time, deal with stress, and engage in shared equity leadership as a journey towards discovering authenticity, earning trust through vulnerability, and building confidence along the way.

Participants will receive an optional digital workbook and added readings that follow each session. 

Through participation in this event, learners will:

  • Develop a leadership purpose and values that establish the core of who they want to become as leaders regardless of positional authority
  • Explore psychology and philosophy concepts that form the basis of a cohesive professional strategy to lead authentically, embrace ambiguity, and learn from mistakes
  • Apply practical strategies to navigate positional isolation, lack of confidence, stress, and interpersonal dynamics

Session Learning Objectives

Session 1: Leading with Your Values

  • Explore leadership values as a way to lead with authenticity 
  • Implement strategies to practice vulnerability and build trust with your team

Session 2: Understanding Yourself 

  • Understand individual work patterns and frame mistakes as opportunities for learning
  • Utilize values-based decision-making and communication strategies across the organization

Session 3: Implementing Shared Equity Leadership

  • Analyze the individual practices that shape equity-centered actions and behaviors
  • Integrate shared equity leadership into organizational culture and processes

Cinthya Ippoliti has been a librarian for over 20 years and has held roles at a wide variety of academic institutions. Most recently, as director of the Auraria Library, Cinthya provides direct administrative leadership for library services, spaces, partnerships, and programming on the tri-institutional Auraria Campus which includes the University of Colorado, Denver; Metropolitan State University of Denver; and Community College of Denver, and serves approximately 35,000 highly diverse students in an urban setting. Prior to joining the Auraria Library, she was the Associate Dean for Research and Learning Services at Oklahoma State University and Head of Teaching and Learning at the University of Maryland Libraries. Her research interests include psychology of leadership, organizational development, and adaptive leadership.
