Join California Volunteers and the California State Library for a conversation with library advocate and strategist Shamichael Hallman, author of Meet Me at the Library: A Place to _Foster Social Connection and Promote Democrac_y.
This event is open to all staff and volunteers in California libraries, parks, schools, and other community spaces. We encourage you to bring your colleagues!
Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has shown how social connection is vital to health and well-being; yet we are facing an epidemic of loneliness and social isolation. Every Californian is a neighbor, and when neighbors know each other, communities thrive.
We’ll explore how libraries and other Third Places can build social connection, integrate the “Meet 6 Neighbors” challenge, and serve as third spaces for community resilience and civic action. There will also be a discussion component to learn from you about how this work is happening in your neighborhood.
