The theme for the 2025 California Library Association Conference is "Telling Our Own Stories." Get ready for your conference attendance by ramping up with this virtual workshop. Learn about the science of storytelling, why it works, personal story mapping and how to find your powerful personal narrative and what type of storyteller you are. You will also hone in on your brand story and learn how to craft and collect compelling narratives. Now is the time to tell your library's story!

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Engagement and Connection: Creating narratives that resonate emotionally, fostering a stronger bond between the team's message and the audience.
  2. Effective Communication: Conveying complex ideas in a clear and relatable manner, ensuring that the intended message is not only understood but also retained by the audience.
  3. Inspiration and Motivation: Through compelling storytelling, corporate teams ignite passion, commitment, and a shared sense of purpose, fostering a more motivated and dedicated workforce.
  4. Influence and Persuasion: The ability to influence decisions and persuade stakeholders is a key outcome. By mastering the art of storytelling, corporate teams shape opinions, gain buy-in, and drive positive action from their audience, whether it's internal team members or external clients and partners.
  5. Memorability and Impact: Through effective storytelling, teams aim to create lasting impressions, ensuring that their ideas, values, and key information are retained and recalled by the audience long after the communication has taken place.

Presenter:

Katie Quesada is an acclaimed speaker and storytelling consultant who is deeply passionate about human communication and storytelling. She helps people and companies craft their communication in a way that is concise and compelling through her practical frameworks. Katie and her husband Danny live with their two daughters in Orange, CA. They spent two years living in a 180 sq ft tiny home and believe that stories are better than stuff.

Representatives from CLA will be in attendance to assist with any questions about the conference and participants will have the opportunity to develop a 5-minute story that they can share in a night track session at the CLA Conference.
