(**This course is a shorter alternative to Touchpoints in Libraries. Please enroll in either this course, or Touchpoints in Libraries. Not both.)

Making connections with families is an important part of the work that library staff do. Whether through a brief interaction or a relationship built over time, these connections are essential for families to see libraries as a place where they are welcome. In this series, participants will learn strategies to engage with families, and solve problems together when situations feel challenging.

Specific topics for the 5 sessions include:

  • Perspective-taking
  • Using strengths-based attitudes
  • Active listening
  • The power of observation
  • Valuing a family’s passion

Presenter:

The Brazelton Touchpoints Center (BTC) provides professional and leadership development, organizational learning and change, and research and evaluation services for family-facing professionals working in pediatrics, early childhood care and education, children’s libraries and museums, early intervention, and other fields.

Track: Family engagement
