Specially tailored for library supervisors and managers (but open to all levels of library workers), the Building Basics for Libraries, Continued webinar series introduces basic concepts and terminology of construction, building management, and building maintenance as they relate to the library environment. Attendees will gain a better understanding of their physical surroundings, improve equity within the library space, identify potential building issues, communicate more effectively with building maintenance personnel, respond appropriately to critical building issues and emergencies, and use lessons learned for better decision-making when planning building improvements and budgeting.

This series consists of 3 parts. Take one or all:

  1. Reading 101 - Building Plans: April 20, 2023 at 12:00 pm
  2. If You Bid It They Will Come - The Bidding Process Start to Finish: May 4, 2023 at 12:00 pm
  3. Building it Right - Building Codes and Standards: May 18, 2023 at 12:00 pm

By the end of this series, attendees will:

  • Learn basic building concepts and principles as they pertain to library operations

  • Navigate effectively through complex building management problems and processes

  • Develop inter-departmental and external relationships to maximize outcomes

Session 3 Description: Are you at a loss when it comes to building codes? This webinar will introduce you to building codes, explain why they are important, and how they impact your building projects, with plenty of time for questions and answers.

Presenter: Carlos Baffigo was Deputy Director of the Pasadena Public Library until Jan 2023, in charge of library operations, facility management, IT systems, and security. His 30-year facility management experience includes major relocations, remodels, historic building renovations, build-outs, retrofits, building safety management, technology implementations, EOC management, disaster mitigation, and security response. Previously, Carlos worked in the residential construction industry and enjoys renovating houses.
